13th Annual Main Street Father's Day Car Show
Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce
Father’s Day Main Street Car Show
Hyannis,
Massachusetts, the largest town on Cape Cod, is a popular vacation spot and the
quaint shops and eateries in its downtown area are always bustling with
activity. For the last 12 years on Father’s Day, Main Street Hyannis has drawn
a much larger crowd than normal, thanks to its annual car show, an
all-volunteer effort organized by the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored
by Horgan Insurance Agency and International Classic Auctions (ICA).
Each year, Main Street
is closed to through traffic and over 350 specialty cars are displayed along
the street. The 2006 show, the 12th annual event, brought vehicles from all
over New England as well as New York. Local police estimate that almost 50,000
spectators came out to admire the sea of colorful sheet metal. Food vendors and
other activities are also featured, and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 1:30
p.m., with the street opening up to regular traffic by 2 p.m. It is free to
spectators and a great family day of fun!
After 12 years, the show has developed quite a following and often sells out to
participants weeks before the show, with each participant receiving a
collectible dash plaque and goodie bag. Due to parking limitations, only 350
pre-registration applications are accepted each year, and there are no vehicles
newer than 25 years old (1982 and older).
